Update on address lookup provider
This announcement concerns the address lookup facility in Agilebase, i.e. the ability to enter a postcode and then choose an address, auto-populating all of the address fields in a form.
If you use this function, please read on:
The provider of the address lookup service that we used to use is getaddress.io (Codeberry Limited). In October 2025, they lost a court case pertaining to the source of their database of addresses, having “infringed RMG’s database right and copyright in the PAF and IDDQD’s database right in the GBR Database”. The full details of the case are here: https://caselaw.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ewhc/ch/2025/2561
We have switched providers and now use www.ideal-postcodes.co.uk, who are the other party in the case and who have a compatible and commercially equivalent offering.
What does this mean for me?
Firstly, there will be no disruption. Your use of the Agilebase lookup feature will continue as normal in the short term. We have switched you to the alternative service behind the scenes and have paid a license fee to cover all customer usage until you can switch providers yourself. There will be no cost to you as a customer.
When you can, please close your account with getaddress.io and create an account with www.ideal-postcodes.co.uk. Enter your new license key into Agilebase as per the docs.
If it looks like your usage will exceed our own account’s limits in the meantime, we will get in touch.
Supplier approval
In general, we have a robust supplier approval process here at Agilebase, taking into account a number of factors such as a company’s history, financial status, where they’re domiciled, GDPR and data security.
Ideal Postcodes have passed these checks. They are a UK company, registration number 08302922.
However you may, I imagine, need to approve the use of a new supplier within your business. If there are questions or reasons why you might be unable to use Ideal Postcodes, please let us know and we will do our best to work out a solution.
