A partnership built on shared knowledge, shared values and solving difficult problems

In business (or life!), you never quite know who you’ll meet, where a working relationship might lead, or how long it might last. Some connections simply become part of the story of a business.

Richard Wilson’s, CTO at Little House Consultancy, relationship with Agilebase is one of those. It began many years ago, when he first worked alongside Agilebase’s founders on a large-scale project. Years later, when Richard moved into independent consultancy, that relationship continued — eventually leading to him joining Agilebase as a consultant and, later, becoming an Agilebase Partner.

Based in South Wales, Little House Consultancy helps ambitious companies with the strategy and management of their software, organisational and development projects.

But what has kept the relationship going is more than familiarity. It’s a shared approach to consultancy: taking the time to understand the real problem a business is trying to solve, finding a practical solution, and staying involved to make sure it delivers.

Solving big problems rather than just installing software

For Richard, one of the things that makes Agilebase a critical solution for his customers and helps him differentiate, is its ability to solve complex or unique problems.

Many of the businesses he works with have unusual or highly specific processes that don’t fit neatly into standard ERP, CRM or e-commerce software. Traditionally, businesses in this position have had two choices: compromise their processes to fit an off-the-shelf system, or commission expensive bespoke software.

But Agilebase provides Richard with the opportunity to offer clients another option.
Instead of asking, “Which software package can we make this business fit into?” with Agilebase in his toolkit, Richard can ask and challenge, “What does this business actually need to work better?”

Richard explains:

“I enjoy working at a system architecture level. Rather than finding a short-term workaround for an individual administrative problem or adding another off-the-shelf solution, I work with clients to understand the bigger picture; how their processes, data and people fit together — and then build something that creates real value from the outset and continues to do so as the business evolves. Using Agilebase enables me to implement comprehensive solutions and add more value to my clients.”

That ability to build around the way a business actually operates is particularly valuable when working with niche organisations.

Richard continues,

“Because it is built on no-code, Agilebase’s development speed is a huge benefit. You can take a client’s requirements and/or niche solution – no matter how unique – and turn them into a working system very quickly.”

Building client relationships that stand the test of time

Richard’s approach to client work has evolved over the years. Today, rather than working with large numbers of smaller clients on repetitive projects, he increasingly works with fewer, larger organisations where there is an opportunity to understand the business in depth and make a meaningful difference, and Agilebase has been a cornerstone software to help make that happen.

“These days, most of my clients are using Agilebase,” Richard confirms.

Agilebase can start by solving one unique business problem – and that is usually the hook for getting a client, but then develops as the client understands the power behind it. Once the foundations are in place, additional processes and functionality can be connected to the existing system rather than creating another isolated piece of software.

As Richard explains, the value can multiply as more of a client’s operations are brought together:

“The more you build within the Agilebase system, the more the value for the client multiplies, and that provides me with a great sense of job satisfaction.”

Commercial success + shared values

Richard also highlights the relationship he has with Cliff Calcutt, CEO, Agilebase, and Oliver Kohll, CTO, Agilebase, as an important part of why the partnership works.

“Having worked with Cliff and Ollie for many years, I’ve always found them to be open, engaged and genuinely interested in solving the customer’s problem. It’s a collaborative relationship rather than a transactional one, with a shared focus on finding the right solution and achieving the best possible outcome for the client”

Richard explains.

Richard continues:

“This is important to me, because my motivation behind his work isn’t simply about completing projects or maximising revenue. I enjoy working on difficult problems, seeing the impact of the work and helping businesses improve the way they operate and Agilebase enables me to do just that.”

A partnership built to last

For Agilebase, Richard represents the kind of partner relationship the business wants to build more of: experienced professionals with their own client relationships, a genuine understanding of business problems and a desire to stay close to their clients over the long term.

For Richard, Agilebase provides a powerful tool for doing what he enjoys most — solving difficult problems, making a tangible difference and developing solutions that can continue to evolve with the businesses he works with.

Cliff Calcutt, CEO at Agilebase, says:

“Richard is a great example of what we look for in an Agilebase Partner. He understands that the technology is only part of the solution — it’s about understanding the customer, getting to the heart of the problem and building something that genuinely makes a difference.”
